Wellhouse starts left hand drive production

Wellhouse Ford Terrier

Wellhouse Leisure from Skelmanthorpe, Huddersfield has started production of LHD (left hand-drive) models for its first export order, to Ford Switzerland, and as a result, Wellhouse will also be attending another continental show this year – the Suisse Caravan Salon in Berne, Switzerland, from 27 to 31 October 2016.

Wellhouse Leisure will be showcasing its Ford Terrier model at the Düsseldorf Caravan Salon in Germany from 27 August to 4 September 2016.  The Düsseldorf Caravan Salon is Europe’s largest show of its kind, covering 210,000 m, with over 200,000 visitors and 2,100 leisure vehicles on display. Wellhouse Leisure is taking its top-of-the-range Terrier M-Sport camper to the show, and hopes to generate new export orders.

Wellhouse Leisure was the first campervan manufacturer in the UK to launch a conversion of the new Ford Transit Custom. It worked closely with Ford both during its development and since then to develop a retail network of selected Ford dealers across the UK and now into mainland Europe.

The first Wellhouse Ford Terrier was launched in the UK in October 2013, with an elevating roof and side furniture layout and rock-and-roll seat that converts to a double bed. It was voted ‘The Campervan of the Year 2014’ and shortlisted for the top ‘Motorhome of the Year’ title by experts from two of the UK’s leading motorcaravan magazines, MMM (Motorcaravan Motorhome Monthly) and Which Motorhome?.

Over 450 Wellhouse Ford Terriers have been sold since its launch just three years ago. Wellhouse Leisure aims to produce 250 vehicles a year to meet demand.

David Elliott, Managing Director of Wellhouse Leisure commented: ‘We are delighted to be building LHD models and introducing our Ford Terrier campervan to the rest of Europe. We are confident it will prove as popular abroad as it has in the UK.

“As soon as I saw the new Ford Transit Custom, I knew it would be an ideal base vehicle for a campervan conversion, and has proved to be a great success. It looks fantastic, is great to drive, has great build quality, and comes with a higher specifications, plus all the latest Ford technology to make it convenient to live with, economical to run, and good value,’ David continued.
