Fiat presents 4x4 Ducato
The days of 4x4 campers becoming more commonplace in Europe seem to be getting closer as Fiat attempts to provide a product that many Australian campers have had for years with the Ducato 4x4 Expedition Camper Show Van.
Hymer brought a 4x4 van on a Mercedes chassis to Camper Salon 2015 and in true motorhome style, everyone is going to follow - by everyone I mean Fiat as their vehicles are the commonest base vehicles these days.
Most campers of course take their vehicle off the road from time to time, these new vehicles will extend possibilities and maybe take away some of the fear of getting stuck in the mud or sand.
The French Dangel has been working with 4x4 systems for Fiat, Peugeot and Citroën for some time and some vehicles were shown at the Paris Motor Show 2014. Dangel's contribution to the Ducato base is to raise the ride height and bolt on new wheels with much larger tyres. And as we are off roading there are now two spare wheels and not just one. The track is also widened and a front skid plate added.
Auto interior designers Tecnoform have done a great job in providing a calm look with furniture integrated lighting and a state-of-the-art entertainment system with dual retractable flat-screen TVs and multi-speaker audio.
The bad news is that Fiat says that it is a show vehicle and it is not going into mass production but we all know that they don't really mean that and are just trying to test the water!
