Rally will boost economy

Nearly 1000 motorhome enthusiasts are expected to descend on Gisborne in early 2019 and add an estimated $1 million to the local economy.

Gisborne has been confirmed as host of the New Zealand Motor Caravan Association’s national rally, which will take place in March 2019.

New Zealand Motor Caravan Association chairman Fergus McKenzie of Gisborne said the city could expect up to 1000 of the association’s members and about 600 self-contained motorhomes to descend on Showgrounds Park.

“Many will spend a couple of weeks visiting and seeing all our attractions.

“Research conservatively shows that they will, over the period, inject close to $1 million into the local economy, as much as the cruise ships inject in a year. So it promises to be a big event for the district.
