Peugeot sees strong growth in RV sector

The French car manufacturers Peugeot is enjoying increasing popularity in the camper van sector as well. The PSA Group has quadrupled its camper van sales in the last four years. Demand in this segment has also risen sharply in Germany. This is shown by the latest registration numbers. From July 2017 to June 2018, Peugeot recorded 1,426 newly registered camper vans, an increase of 90% compared to the same period of the previous year. In 2017, the Peugeot Boxer with set-up by Weinsberg Pepper was the best-selling partly-integrated camper van in Germany.

‘Camping is on trend, and we are becoming more and more successful on the camper van market. Demand is increasing for our popular Peugeot Boxer. The sturdy chassis is ideal for converting to a comfortable camper van,’ explains Steffen Raschig, Managing Director of Peugeot Germany.

New registrations increase by 57% in first half of 2018 in Germany

In the first half of 2018, the lion brand has already recorded 962 new registrations in the camper van segment in Germany, which represents an increase of 57% previous year, compared with a market growth of only 14%. Peugeot is therefore 43 percentage points above the average of the growing camper van market.

Peugeot and the PSA Group are also seeing strong sales growth in Europe. Peugeot sold around 6,000 camper vans in 2018 while the parent company PSA sold a total of 20,000 vehicles. The PSA Group has thus quadrupled sales in the last four years and showed the largest growth compared with other OEMs. In the first half of 2018, Peugeot had a market share of 4.3% in the camper van segment in Europe and the PSA Group a market share of 13.5%, making it the number two in Europe.

The long-established companies Weinsberg, Knaus, Pössl, Bravia, Bailey, Autosleepers, Elddis, Van Tourer, Elcamp and OrangeCamp are expanding the Peugeot Boxer into camper vans. The vehicles are characterised by comfort, economical BlueHDi engines, favourable extended warranties and an international assistance and repair service.
