RV facilities drive tourism

Nearly 80,000 New Zealand Motor Caravan Association members are being encouraged to stop in Kaikohe after the town was named a ‘Motorhome Friendly’ destination this month.

Motorhome Friendly status recognises towns that go the extra mile to make motorhome owners feel welcome by providing overnight parking within easy reach of facilities, such as major retailers, water supplies and dump stations.

Kaikohe is one of 48 destinations in New Zealand recognised as Motorhome Friendly, with Whangarei the only other Northland town to gain the ranking.

The new status could prove a financial windfall for Kaikohe. Each year, New Zealand Motor Caravan Association members spend $211 million touring the country - something Kaikohe can now take advantage of.
