Tennsee is located around 15km to the east of Garmisch Parkenkirchen in southern Germany with mountain views from almost every angle. However the cyclist will be glad to hear that whereas there are mountains, the excellent paved bicycle paths are relatively flat - note the word relatively of course, remember that this is a mountain area! The campsite itself is incorporated into the surrounding countryside, to the south we see the mountains, a forest and Tennsee which is a dried up lake for most of the year although it does fill with water when the snow melts in spring only to be swallowed up by the porous Karst rock within a few weeks.
The campsite is quite large with a restaurant serving local Bavarian food. On arrival one gets a coupon to use in the bar for a welcome drink. Other facilities include electric hook-up, WLAN, TV, gas, electricity, water supply and disposal. The sanitary block has a bath (for those not wanting a shower) - something I was very glad of after a hard day's cycling.
The laundry room has coin-operated washing machines and a free drier. There is also a number of sinks for washing up.
There is a dog bath as well as a car wash area which could come in handy in the winter when there is salt on the road.
Nearby we have the town of Garmisch Partenkirchen, the medieval town of Mittenwald which is located almost on the Austrian border, Krün which offers mountain views and a cable car and the nearby Karvandel National Park.
